Lunar Eclipse - 15th June 2011

There will be a total Lunar eclipse just as the moon is rising on Wednesday evening. It's a rare event and should look pretty weird if the sky is clear. The moon will rise between East and SE. It will be very faint and red-ish. It will rise just as the sun is setting at about 9:05 pm, so the sky will not be especially dark. The moon will probably look very faint and ghostlike and probably look like a sphere, rather than the bright flat disc it usually looks like when full.

Here's one I photographed earlier:

At 10:03 the totality will end and the bright light of direct sunlight will hit the edge of the moon again.

Happy eclipse chasing.
